Overview
Experience authentic village life on this hands-on rice farming tour. Travel across the Mekong River to Khmu Connections, where you will learn how rice is grown using traditional techniques, enjoy cultural activities, and connect with local people.

Itinerary
Your journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Luang Prabang. You will travel by tuk-tuk to the ferry and cross the Mekong River to Chom Phet District.
After a short drive, you will arrive at Khmu Connections, where your experience begins.

Welcome Experience
Enjoy a warm welcome with green tea or lemon juice. Your local Khmu guide will teach you a few basic words in the Khmu language.

Rice Farming Experience
• Learn why rice is the most important food in Laos
• Discover traditional farming methods used for generations
• Work in the rice fields alongside local farmers
 Water Buffalo & Planting
• See how water buffalo prepare the rice fields
• Try planting rice in the muddy paddies

Harvesting and Processing
• Cut rice using traditional tools
• Learn how rice is dried, threshed, and prepared
• Try pounding sticky rice using traditional equipment
Learn how sticky rice is pounded using a traditional mortar and pestle
Separate rice from the husks and winnow by hand

Traditional Skills
• Watch a hunting demonstration using a bow and arrow
• Learn about the traditional lifestyle of the Khmu people

Fun Cultural Activities
• Try walking on bamboo stilts
• Join a traditional bamboo dance
